Sub-head 41.--North Point Reclamation Extension, $8,000.—To provide for the extension of the sea and nullah walls on part of the existing rubble mound. This wall will protect dumping already done and provide a further area for the deposition of building debris.

BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.
43.-Compensation and Resumptions, $20,000.—This vote is to cover expenditure incurred in connection with the resumption of private property fronting on roads which require either widening or realign- ment. $10,000 of the amount is earmarked for payment of com- pensation in connection with the opening out of a bottle neck in Wanchai Road.
ANTI-MALARIAL WORKS.
44.-Anti-Malarial Works, $50,000.-To permit the further training of stream courses and draining of swamps to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
KOWLOON.
BUILDINGS.
45.-New Mental Hospital, $50,000.-The reprovisioning of the existing Mental Home is over due. It is proposed to erect a new Home on a levelled site situated to the east of the Kowloon Hospital. No decision regarding the size or description of the building has been made, as it is considered that the new Director of Medical Services who is due in Hong Kong in December, should be consulted. The total estimated cost shown in this vote is therefore only very approximate, but a sum of $50,000 has been included in the estimates this year so that work can be put in hand as soon as possible.
46. New Ward Block "D', Kowloon Hospital, $70,000.-This is to
commence the construction of a new third class fifty-six bed ward.
47.-Coal Bins, Yaumati Slipway, $4,000.-To provide coal storage for
Government launches.
GENERAL WORKS.
48.-Roads, $30,000.-The vote will meet expenditure incurred on road surfacing, kerbing, channelling and the construction of footpaths in new areas under development.
49.-Drainage :-(a) Training Nullahs, $1,000.-This sum is required to meet the cost of training stream courses where this is necessary due to new development.
(b) Miscellaneous, $30,000.-Required to meet the cost of providing sewers and storm water drains for houses in newly developed areas.
50.-Miscellaneous, $5,000.-This vote is available for all Departments and provides funds for minor works which arise during the year but are considered too small for a separate vote.

new meters throughout the year.

52.-Port Works, $1,000.-Required for taking soundings, borings and preliminary investigations in connection with new and proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping, etc.
MISCELLANEOUS.
53.-Ma Tau Kok Slaughter House-Resurface Compound, $5,500.-To
provide a new surface of impervious material.
54.-Royal Observatory-Flat Concrete Roof, $3,000.--To give access to a flat roof on the main block and provide a light concrete roof over this roof. This will give protection to a point of vantage for observation and to the sites of certain instruments.
55.-Kowloon Hospital Air conditioning of Operating Theatre, $6,500.-- When this operating theatre was designed the use of air conditioning was not a common practice. It is now considered that to obtain ideal conditions the temperature and humidity of an operating theatre should be controlled.
56.-Chinese Cemeteries-Laying out new areas, $1,000.-To provide for new burial areas in existing cemeteries. The decrease in this vote is due to the gradual closing down of these cemeteries.
57.-Street Name Plates, $2,000.-To cover the expenditure required for
the provision of new nameplates.
58. Installation of Electric light for the S.E. Drive from the Mortuary to the Kowloon Hospital, $1,200.-It is considered necessary to provide illumination for this path.
WATER WORKS.
59. Back Lane Service Pipes, $5,000.-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed areas to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains are eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested.

60.-Compensation and Resumptions, $5,000,-For expenditure in the acquisition of buildings and land necessitated by Town Planning Improvement.
ANTI-MALARIAL WORKS.
61.-Anti-Malarial Works, $3,000.-For anti-malarial work in Kowloon.

62.--New Kowloon Cemetery No. 7-Quarters, Storeroom, etc. for Sextons, $8,000.-There is no accommodation at present in this new cemetery.
